Country icon Dolly Parton is celebrating the 52nd anniversary of arguably her most successful song, Jolene.
Taking to her social media, she posted a throwback video of her performing the track with the caption, "52 years of ‘Jolene!’”
Having been released in 1973, it is based on a real woman who flirted with her now late husband, Carl Dean soon after their wedding.
In the track, Parton praises her, claiming her "beauty is beyond compare, with flaming locks of auburn hair", begging the woman not to steal her husband because she "could never love again" if she lost him.
About the track, she remarked at the Glastonbury Festival in 2014, "[The] song was loosely based on a little bit of truth. I wrote that years ago when my husband… was spending a little more time with Jolene than I thought he should be."
In another interview with NPR in 2008, Parton claimed that the woman had had a “terrible” crush on her husband, "And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention.”
It ended up becoming a running joke between the couple as she teased him for dropping by the bank so often.
