The R&B world is reeling from the loss of neo-soul legend D’Angelo.
The Grammy-winning vocalist died on Tuesday morning, October 14, at 51, after a private battle with cancer, his family confirmed in multiple reports.
Known for shaping modern R&B with his signature fusion of soul and hip-hop, D’Angelo released three acclaimed albums throughout his career, Brown Sugar, Voodoo, and Black Messiah with The Vanguard, earning four Grammy Awards along the way.
Since news of his death broke, tributes have poured in from across the music industry, with fellow artists remembering him as a true visionary.
DJ Premier was among the first to react, calling the singer’s passing “such a sad loss,” before adding, “Gonna miss you so much. Sleep peacefully D’. Love you KING.”
Doja Cat also took to X (formerly Twitter) to honor the late musician, writing, “Rest in peace D’Angelo. My thoughts, love ,and prayers go out to his family and friends. A true voice of soul and inspiration to many brilliant artists of our generation and generations to come.”
