Meghan Markle’s high-profile trip to Paris Fashion Week is drawing backlash, with one royal commentator branding the duchess’s appearance a “desperate bid for relevance” that has “spectacularly backfired.”
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, made headlines over the weekend after attending Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2026 show, where she supported the brand’s new creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
However, her glamorous return to Europe quickly turned into controversy.
Social media users mocked her for an awkward runway-style walk as she exited the show, and for a cringe-worthy exchange with Piccioli that went viral.
Adding fuel to the fire, Meghan later posted a video from the back of a limousine driving near Pont de l’Alma, the tunnel where Princess Diana tragically died in 1997, a move many called “tasteless.”
Royal expert Lee Cohen told The Express: “Her whole Paris outing was an absolute shambles from start to finishm a desperate bid for relevance that backfired into a mockery of epic proportions. It’s all so fake and forced, like she’s trying too hard to play a fashion icon but ends up the punchline.”
Cohen added that the backlash proves how Meghan’s “star power is fading” and that the duchess has “become a laughing stock in the fashion world.”
