Mariah Carey, famously called the “Queen of Christmas”, has opened up about the emotional final chapter she shared with her mother, Patricia.
The 56-year-old superstar revealed in a heartfelt interview on CBS Mornings that she and her mother had an “interesting” relationship, but were able to reconcile before the end.
For the unversed, Mariah's mother passed away in August 2024.
“I don’t know how I processed it, I just know that it was extremely difficult for me to navigate,” she admitted.
“It was tough because I have always had an interesting relationship with my mother.”
The music legend was by Patricia’s side during her final days and described finding comfort in the heartfelt conversations they shared.
“She said a lot of things that were very healing for what I needed. And I felt like that was the right thing to do,” she said.
Tragically, the Emotions hitmaker also lost her estranged sister, Alison, on the same day.
Speaking about this double blow, she confessed, “It was tough… my sister had an extremely hard life. I hadn’t seen her in years, and I feel really badly about that.”
The songstress announced the loss of both her mother and sister via a statement to People at the time, expressing heartbreak but also gratitude.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she shared.
Apart from this, the American singer is gearing up for her upcoming sixteenth studio album, Here for It All, which is set to be released on September, 26 2025.
