Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ cardigan blasted online

Taylor Swift has put out a new cardigan variant to accompany her highly anticipated album The Life of a Showgirl, but many fans are raising eyebrows over the merch drop.

The 14-time Grammy winner’s fans are always on the lookout for new releases, but her latest piece left many of the 35-year-old’s supporters with a sense of something lacking. 

Ever since the release of the Cardigan singer’s album Folkore came with the limited time only snuggly namesake piece, Taylor has been putting out new variants with each re-recorded or brand new album.

However, the sparkly, starry burnt orange piece which the New Year’s Day singer herself also wore in a short video on her social media has been torn apart by internet users.

They took up an issue with the colour, material and the needlessness of dropping new cardigan variants with every new album.

One fan wrote on social media, “Honestly, I’m so often let down by the quality of the official shirts and cardigans in particular. The cardigans are always made from plastic and don’t hold up even through hand washing,” while another added, “this looks… itchy.”

“Oh look, another ugly cardigan… for an extremely high price. And we have to get another cd with it. Lol I get the folklore cardigan was awesome. But it was on theme for the album. It was the OG,” wrote a third user.

“The aquamarine would have been a better color and a softer option. Anytime I've gotten a top with glitter it just itches/irritates my skin. Glad it was something new though!” a fourth netizen remarked.

Taylor’s The Official Release Party of a Showgirl will come out in theatres on October 3rd, with the full length video of The Fate of Ophelia and lyric videos of the other songs.
