Halsey admits to being banned from making music: fans react

Halsey took her fans aback in a new interview by admitting that her label is not allowing her to put out another album.

As she told Zane Lowe, “I can’t make an album right now, I’m not allowed to. ‘The Great Impersonator’ didn’t perform the way they thought it was going to. And if I’m being honest with you, the album sold 100,000 copies first week — that’s a pretty big first week. Especially for an artist who hasn’t had a hit in a long time.”

The singer continued, “The tour is the highest-selling tour of my entire career. But they want ‘Manic’ numbers from me. I can’t do that every single time. It should be good enough that I do it once in a while. But it’s not. And what would be considered a success story for most artists — 100,000 albums first week in an era where we don’t sell physical music, with no radio hit, nothing — it’s a failure in the context of the kind of success I’ve had previously.”

Fans were outraged by this admission, as one wrote on X, “I really respect her so much for being open about this, but it’s disgusting that an artist is reduced to numbers like this. How well an album does has so many factors than just the quality. Some amazing albums just don’t sell well. Free her and fuck music execs.”

“The Great Impersonator easily top 3 albums of all time for me… it’s actually very frustrating the labels want TikTok hits that are massive for a year then fall off the face of the earth then actual timeless great albums. 100k first week are insanely good numbers too,” argued another.

A third user questioned, “How is she supposed to make a new hit if she can’t make new music? It’s so stupid, not every single album will be the album of the year but there are evidently a lot of people who love her music and want more of it.”
