Halsey recently revealed a shocking truth about her record label and the reason why she hasn’t put out any new music recently.
In conversation with Zane Lowe, the 30-year-old singer spoke about the injustice her label put her through regarding future albums.
She confessed, “I can’t make an album right now. I’m not allowed to.” The artist appeared saddened by the news and continued, “It’s the reality because The Great Impersonator didn’t perform the way they thought it would.”
The Control hitmaker referred to her last album, which was released in October 2024. She claimed that the executives at the record label had stopped her from making more music since the album didn’t do very well in sales.
However, Halsey defended her work by admitting that it sold 100,000 copies in one week, which is amazing in the era of physical music. “It was the highest-selling work in my entire career.”
The musician stated that everyone wants manic numbers from her, and she can’t do that every single time. “It should be good enough that I do it once in a while.”
She appeared disappointed because she was being compared to other people and numbers.
Netizens in the comment section rushed to Halsey’s defence. One fan wrote, “Her label is evil, they're just using her as a money-making machine.” Another follower commented, “It’s a shame when creativity gets blocked by corporate expectations.”
For the unversed, The Great Impersonator was experimental in nature and was regarded as a concept album by blending various genres like hip-hop, pop and folk.
Hasley’s most successful album is Manic, which was released in 2020. It was certified Platinum twice and sold 239,000 copies in the first week.
