Princess Anne Apologizes After Cancelling Engagements Due to Aircraft Trouble

Princess Anne has issued an apology after being forced to cancel two engagements on Wednesday due to unexpected aircraft troubles.

The Princess Royal, 75, had been scheduled to attend events in Holywood and south Belfast, but technical issues with her plane meant she couldn’t make it.

A spokesperson said Anne “apologised to any who were disappointed or inconvenienced” and added that she hopes to “make arrangements to visit on another occasion.”

Guests who missed out on seeing her were instead invited to a garden party at Hillsborough Castle later in the day.

Anne, often dubbed the hardest-working royal, still managed to make an impact at the castle event.

Dressed in a dark coat and taupe feathered hat, she presented 106-year-old Norman Irwin with the British Empire Medal for his voluntary work. Irwin is the oldest person ever to receive the honour.

“Thank you for telling your story and thank you for helping other people,” Anne told him warmly.

Irwin’s son, David, called the moment “incredibly touching,” saying his father had always been “very cheeky” and had done so much for others throughout his life.
