Nina Dobrev and Shaun White spent five years together before parting ways, starting their relationship after a brief date in Florida.

The beginnings: 2019
Nina and Shaun first met at a motivational workshop in Florida hosted by Tony Robbins. Afterwards, they went to dinner, where Shaun realized Nina’s fame. In a January 2022 interview with People, he recalled, “I actually didn't know anything about her…The staff kept asking, ‘Can we get a photo with her?’ And I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ It was really funny.”
Sparking rumours to making it official: 2020
Dating rumours began when they posted separate Instagram photos from the same location, Safari, and intensified after being spotted biking in Malibu during the COVID-19 lockdown.
They confirmed their relationship on Instagram on April 18, sharing a playful video of Nina washing groceries with Shaun’s hands. Fans immediately recognised his tattoo.
Celebrating love: 2021
In February, the couple publicly celebrated Valentine’s Day. Nina captioned an Instagram post: “my favourite snow cone flavour is White. Happy we got ‘stuck together’ last year and stuck it out ;) happy valentine’s day to my quarantini in crime...”
In June, they celebrated their first anniversary. Shaun told Us Weekly, “I wanted to recreate our first date, but everything was closed… I managed to sweet-talk the owner into opening up for us. It was fun to have the place to ourselves.”
Snowboarding to red carpet: 2022
The couple enjoyed a peak year, taking a snowboarding trip on January 19 and making their red carpet debut at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London on May 19.
Red carpet IT couple: 2023
They were seen at The Out-Laws premiere in Los Angeles in June. In a July interview with E!, Nina said, “Shaun helped me run lines for my audition.” In September, they attended a Clooney Foundation for Justice event in matching all-black outfits.
Putting a ring on it: 2024
On October 30, Nina announced their engagement on Instagram, captioning, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé,” alongside photos from White’s surprise proposal at NYC’s Golden Swan, where he pretended it was a CFDA dinner and gave her a five-carat ring. She said yes.
The couple attended the F1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas on November 23 and celebrated their first holiday as an engaged couple on Instagram on December 30, captioning, “First Christmas as fiancées.”
Calling it off: 2025
In September, Nina and Shaun ended their engagement. A source told People, “It was a mutual decision—not easy, but made with love and deep respect for each other.”
