Taylor Swift missed out on ‘Vampire Diaries’ role, here’s why

Taylor Swift almost had a cameo in the hit CW series The Vampire Diaries, but the show’s creators and showrunners couldn’t agree on it.

In Entertainment Weekly editor Samantha Highfill’s debut book, I Was Feeling Epic: An Oral History of The Vampire Diaries, co-creator and showrunner Julie Plec explained why the team decided not to invite Swift for a guest appearance.

“The CW did ask us if we wanted to do a Taylor Swift cameo, and we said no,” Plec recalled.

She went on to justify the decision, saying that having Swift on The Vampire Diaries just “didn’t feel grounded” for the world they were creating in the first season.

“This isn’t 7th Heaven where Taylor can show up and do a free concert at the high school and make it feel somehow real,” she said. “It would take us all out of it. It would take this very sort of timeless little community and make it feel too contemporary.”

Still, being a self-proclaimed Swiftie, Plec admitted, “If only I knew then what I know now about my love for Taylor.”

In another part of the book, Highfill also dismissed a long-standing theory that the role of Lexi Branson, the fan-favourite character played by Arielle Kebbel, had originally been written for the Grammy-winning singer.

She clarified that, despite persistent fan speculation, the role was “never written” for Swift.
