Catherine Zeta-Jones was thrilled when she learned her character, Morticia Addams, would have a prominent story arc in Wednesday season 2.

“I was thrilled that I had such a wonderful dynamic with the great Dame Joanna Lumley (Grandmama Hester Frump),” she told THR. “I was a 14-year-old child when I met her, and I was just so in awe of her. So there are these wonderful three generations of women that we play, and my relationship with Wednesday is contentious, but so is my relationship with my mother.”

Zeta-Jones, who returned to Nevermore Academy to drop off Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), also stays there after Principal Weems asks her to chair the Gala Fundraising Committee.

With this, Tim Burton’s hit Netflix series introduced fresh hurdles for the mischievous heroine — including growing tension between mother and daughter.

As Wednesday recklessly wields her psychic powers, Morticia works to prevent history from repeating itself, fearing her daughter may face the same fate as her sister, Ophelia Frump.

Now, after two spooky and creepy seasons, the Emmy-winning Netflix show is set to return for another, but ahead of season three, Zeta-Jones has some hopes.

“I hope that I can have such a great character arc as I did in season two. But then again, I don’t know which way they’re going to go,” Zeta-Jones told the outlet. “I literally have no idea. I’d like to have more time with my mother and do more of a backstory there. Through our communication and actions, we kind of solidify that something went down that was completely, quite devastating for Morticia.”

Zeta-Jones further added that she would love more scenes with Lumley and Uncle Fester, calling him “a prominent part of the Addams family’s extended family.”

“And I would imagine there would be some kind of Wednesday–Morticia confrontation, but maybe it would be finding some solace or common ground as she grows older,” she concluded.
