Netflix star Emma Roberts is set to headline a new rom-com, A Murder Uncorked, directed by Ari Sandel and produced by Vincent Newman.
The film’s script comes from Legally Blonde and The Ugly Truth screenwriter Karen McCullah.
Roberts and Newman previously collaborated on the comedy crime hit We’re the Millers.
In the upcoming murder mystery, Roberts will play a struggling actress who, after losing her TV detective role, returns to her old waitressing job. There, she meets Derek, a charming winery owner who offers her a dream position in scenic Napa Valley.
But when a shocking murder rocks the vineyard, she must juggle solving the crime, protecting the man she’s falling for, and navigating Napa’s over-the-top elite, all before her newfound career and budding romance go up in smoke.
The screenplay, penned by McCullah, adapts author Michele Scott’s seven-book murder mystery romance series. Up next, McCullah is also behind The Last Resort, starring Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich.
“Michele’s books are a hugely entertaining blend of romance, comedy, and mystery that appeal to a worldwide audience of all ages,” Newman said. “A Murder Uncorked is the first film in what we envision as a franchise.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled about the opportunity to work with Emma and to create this love letter to both Napa Valley wine country and the murder mystery genre, while adding a comedic flair that makes it a fun and entertaining ride,” added Sandel.
A Murder Uncorked will begin production in 2026.
