James Bond is one of the most followed movie franchise of all time with fans all over the globe anticipating the reveal of the new British spy.

A major discourse surrounding the movies has been the gender identity of 007.

In all 27 movies, James Bond has been a male played by a male, which recently has garnered a lot of attention as people have questioned why there has never been a female 007.

Pierce Brosnan, one of the most memorable actors to portray the role of James Bond, and British acting royalty Helen Mirren have shared their thoughts on the discussion.

The co-stars, who are currently starring in The Thursday Murder Club, are promoting their movie.

The 72-year-old, who has played the lead role in four James Bond movies, said the next 007 has to be a man.

“Oh, I think it has to be a man”, Pierce told Saga Magazine. “I'm so excited to see the next man come on the stage and to see a whole new exuberance and life for this character,”.

Dame Helen Mirren, who previously called the James Bond movies “sexist”, agreed with Pierce.

“I'm such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a guy. You can’t have a woman. It just doesn't work. James Bond has to be James Bond, otherwise it becomes something else.”

The next leading guy of the high intelligence movies is yet to be announced.
