Meghan Markle copying Kate Middleton? New wardrobe choice sparks debate

Meghan Markle is back on screen, and sparking a fresh round of “Who wore it first?” chatter. 

Hours after announcing a new multi-year Netflix deal, the Duchess of Sussex dropped the season 2 trailer for With Love, Meghan, where she’s seen cooking and crafting in a ribbed burgundy jumper by Sézane (the £125 “Sami”).

Royal fashion watchers immediately clocked the look: Kate Middleton wore a near-identical knit in beige during a 2023 engagement, and has repeatedly championed deep wine tones, most memorably her head-to-toe burgundy coat dress (with a Chanel bag) during the Emir of Qatar’s state visit. 

With raglan shoulders and five statement sleeve buttons, Meghan’s knit reads classic-polished, very much in the Princess of Wales’ wheelhouse. Cue the copycat claims.

Burgundy has been one of Kate’s signature power shades for years and remains the internet’s favourite “quiet luxury” hue this season. 

Meghan’s spin lands in cozy-elevated territory: styled in her Montecito kitchen with celebrity guests, including Chrissy Teigen, who beams, “I could do this every day.”
