Macaulay Culkin recently admitted that he regrets missing an audition for a Wes Anderson film, Rushmore.

In conversation with Deadline, the 44-year-old actor opened up about an eight-year hiatus and how it cost him a couple of roles.

He said, “I was voraciously reading through the scripts, but there was a couple that slipped through.”

The Richie Rich star added that he found the Rushmore script while clearing out his house. “I was like, ‘Oh dang.’ I probably could have done that one," he recalled.

Though he claimed that he couldn’t see anyone playing the lead except for Jason Schwartzman, Culkin said he would’ve loved to play the part.

Notably, in the film, Schwartzman portrayed an ambitious teenager named Max, aiming to woo his new teacher.

Directed and written by Wes Anderson, Rushmore was released in 1998, two years after Culkin announced his acting hiatus due to the intense pressure of being a child actor.

However, the Home Alone lead returned from his eight-year break in 2003 for the film Party Monster, and a year later, he was arrested for possession of drugs, though he denied claims of substance abuse.

On the professional front, Culkin will join the cast of the Amazon series, Fallout season 2, where he will portray a “genius-type character.” The second part will be released in December 2025.

For the unversed, Macaulay Culkin shares two sons, four-year-old Dakota and a 2-year-old Carson, with his wife, Brenda Song.
