Tyla rose to fame from her singles like Water and Jump in 2024 that put her in the race of young artists with a bright future ahead.

The singer broke down in tears as she opened up about the struggle of young artists with artistic control over their music.

The Water singer admitted that making music that is not authentic to her left her crying as those song did not feel like her.

The singer also recalled the time of crying in her hotel room as she was being pressured to make a song that she did not want to.

In conversation with South African Variety, Tyla said “I remember being in my hotel room and my managers were calling me: ‘Come down, we need to cut the song.’ I was crying and thinking, ‘This is not what I want. I didn’t get signed to do this’.”

She added, “But through doing that, I realised how much more I love African music. It made me more persistent in keeping my ideas.”

The 23-year-old also revealed how she recorded her hit Water saying she was “shy” in the studio with the engineer and his pregnant wife.

Previously, the rising artist had confessed that following the success of Water, she felt trapped after shooting global fame rapidly.
