Prince William 'won't shy away’ from acting on Prince Andrew's role

Prince William is expected to take a far more assertive approach than his predecessors when dealing with internal royal controversies, particularly concerning his uncle, Prince Andrew. 

According to royal biographer Christopher Wilson, the Prince of Wales is preparing to address lingering issues that continue to affect the monarchy’s public image, with Prince Andrew’s titles and royal privileges potentially on the line.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Wilson contrasted King Charles III’s traditionally restrained handling of family scandals with William’s reportedly “hard-nosed” attitude. 

“With William, it will be a different approach,” Wilson said. “He has hard-nosed ideas about how the Royal Family needs to appear in the frenzied social media world we now inhabit, and I think he will be ruthless.”

Wilson added that Prince William “understands the reputational threat his uncle poses to the monarchy in a new generation and will not shy away from taking action if it needs to fall to him.”

The renewed scrutiny comes ahead of the release of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, a new biography by Andrew Lownie, which has already sparked headlines with controversial claims about the Duke of York. 

Among the more sensational allegations is that Prince Andrew and Prince Harry were involved in a physical altercation in 2013 over comments Andrew allegedly made behind Harry’s back about Meghan Markle.

Lownie claims that Harry “got the better of Andrew” in the reported fight, leaving his uncle with a “bloody nose” before others intervened. 

He also alleges Andrew later told Harry that his marriage to Meghan “wouldn’t last more than a month” and accused him of acting “bonkers.”

A spokesperson for Prince Harry has firmly denied the claims.

Another allegation from Lownie’s book suggests that Prince William has been “working behind the scenes” to evict Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson from Royal Lodge, their longtime residence in Windsor Great Park, believing Andrew is “abusing the property and his privilege.”
