Netflix’s Emmy-winning series Wednesday reverted after three years, as Jenna Ortega’s titular character is now tangled in the chaos of her iconic family.

The second season rolls out with Wednesday returning to Nevermore Academy after spending summer vacation tracking down a serial killer and refusing to edit her novel.

Wednesday enters the outcasts’ school as a hero, after saving Nevermore in the previous season, where she now deals with glitches in her psychic abilities while investigating new mysteries.

However, the show has taken on more gothic themes and less comedy, as Wednesday encounters another hassle, her family.

This time, her little brother Pugsley joins her at the outcasts’ academia, and their parents are frequently present on campus.

Co-creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar aimed to feature the mother-daughter love-hate relationship, bringing Morticia, Wednesday’s mother, more to the screen.

"We thought, wouldn't that be, for Wednesday, the ultimate thorn in her side if Morticia came to school," said Millar.

Although the Addams family subplot doesn’t stop with Wednesday’s parents and brother, her grandmother and Uncle Fester also appear at Nevermore.

The Addams family has turned Nevermore into a gothic family duel ground, as Wednesday solves criminal mysteries alongside legacy clashes.

However, the Emmy-winning series that started as a teenage drama returned three years later with a pivoting plot, reflecting broader trends in young adult content.

The storyline convincingly shows how much the series has grown over time, even though it was merely a summer break in the show’s timeline.

Moreover, with family drama surrounding Wednesday, her emotional stakes have deepened and transformed her from a teenage sleuth into a reluctant heir.

For all we can understand, Wednesday — who didn’t want to turn into her parents, as she asserted in Season One — is pretty much adapting the Addams Family tendencies and practices this season.

Wednesday is streaming now on Netflix.
