The rift between the royal brothers may be about to grow even wider, as Prince William is reportedly set to land a prestigious role that once may have gone to Prince Harry.
Despite both being longtime friends of the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, insiders say it’s William, 43, who is in line to be named godfather to Hugh and Olivia Henson’s newborn daughter, Cosima Florence Grosvenor.
The honour, while not yet officially announced, would be a telling nod to William and Hugh’s enduring friendship, one that has weathered royal weddings, football matches, and a growing distance from the Duke of Sussex.
The choice would mirror a past decision: William previously asked Hugh to be godfather to his eldest son, Prince George.
And just weeks ago, William returned the favour by serving as an usher at Hugh’s lavish wedding in Chester Cathedral, a glittering affair that Harry notably skipped.
Harry’s absence at the wedding raised eyebrows, with many questioning how close the once-tight trio still are.
While Harry and Hugh were once thick as thieves, attending parties and supporting causes together, their relationship now appears to have cooled under the weight of transatlantic distance and royal fallout.
A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Westminster confirmed the birth on Sunday: “The Duke and Duchess of Westminster are thrilled to announce the birth of their baby daughter. Both the Duchess and Cosima are doing well.”
