The follow up to the hugely successful I Know What You Did Last Summer films is here, and audiences are running to the theaters.
“When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. One year later, the past comes back to haunt them as they learn someone knows what they did last summer. Stalked by a mysterious killer, they soon seek help from two survivors of the legendary Southport massacre of 1997,” reads the synopsis.
What are audiences saying?
One user gushed over how surprised they were by the film on iMDB, writing, “I went in bracing for something cheesy, but honestly? It surprised me - and in the best way. As reboots go, this one nails it. It captures that nostalgic '90s slasher vibe without feeling like a stale throwback. There's a self-aware, campy energy pulsing through every scene, making it clear the filmmakers know exactly what they're doing.
The pacing is terrific - brisk, tense, and tight. No filler, no flab. One minute you're getting to know the hot, young cast: Madelyn, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King and co - and the next, you're yelping at a clever, unexpectedly brutal kill. Speaking of kills: they're imaginative, well-staged, and hit just the right note of gore without going OTT.”
Another, however, did not quite know how to feel, “I was so excited for this movie and I wanted to love it, but I dunno. I struggled to warm to any of the characters. As for the death scenes I found them very quick, there was no chase, no adrenaline, just seemed all very quick. I enjoyed trying to work out who the killer was, who was behind it and why, but didbt like the ending at all! I was rather disappointed and gobsmacked!
Had a great nod to the original 4 characters from The first film, loved seeing Freddie and Jennifer on the big screen again.”
Others echoed the sentiment of being surprised that they enjoyed the film, “I'll be honest, I didn't have the highest hopes for 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' working as a legacy sequel. I felt like it was a story that works once, but doesn't lend itself to being done over again with a fresh cast. I was wrong. They found a way to make the concept work and it was highly enjoyable.”
