Sean Astin, Stranger Things actor, is planning to take the helm of Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
The Lord of the Rings star has submitted his bid to participate in the upcoming union elections and lead the 160,000-member organization replacing current President Fran Drescher.
Deadline reports that 54-year-old Stranger Things star’s campaign slate includes:
Astin’s mother Patty Duke, the Miracle Worker actress, has previously served SAG-AFTRA for three years as president in 1985.
The 50 First Dates actor has been an active member of the organization and he served in five separate negotiation committees.
He was part of the committee who negotiated with Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers and secured a contract after a historical 118-day long strike in 2023.
It is unclear that who will run against the actor and what are the odds of Astin becoming SAG-AFTRA president.
The deadline for submission of nomination papers concluded on Friday, July 11. Voters can submit their election ballots from August 13 to September 12.
