New Superman David Corenswet has something wry to say about the previous Supermen, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin’s “advice.”
Corenswet is inheriting a legacy as he takes on the title role in DC Comics and Warner Bros.’ new Superman.
At the reboot’s London premiere on Wednesday, July 2, the star spoke in an interview with PEOPLE, sharing Henry and Tyler's takes on offering some advice.
“I was lucky enough to exchange letters with Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill, two fellows who have played Superman before me,” said Corenswet on the red carpet.
However, Corenswet revealed that the former Supermen “refrained from giving advice.”
“There's not much advice that we can give, you know? You sort of have to do your own thing,” he added. “But it was really wonderful to get words of encouragement from them and then to be able to write to them and talk about how appreciative I was of the way that they had stewarded the character in their time.”
Hearing from two actors who had worn the cape before, Corenswet concluded, “was a special experience.”
The new Superman movie by James Gunn will hit theatres on July 11.
