Canadian actor Michael Cera, known for his awkward comedy, recalled a funny encounter with Mission: Impossible franchise star Tom Cruise.

Cera, who is currently in Wes Anderson’s new movie The Phoenician Scheme, discovered that Cruise takes filming very seriously.

He realised this while shooting a pre-taped sketch for the MTV Movie Awards in 2010.

Cruise reprised his Tropic Thunder character, Hollywood agent Len Grossman (whom Cruise has hinted at possibly spinning off into his own movie), for the same awards.

In his appearance on the Louis Theroux Podcast, Cera mentioned his moment with Cruise while doing the segment.

The deadpan icon of the 2000s said that Cruise runs the set. Cera recalled that he was there for barely five minutes and saw Cruise leading like the first AD on set.

“The first moment I had with him, I arrived, they were shooting, and I was talking to the writer,” Cera shared. “We were just kind of mumbling while they were shooting, but they could hear us. It was just like 40 feet away.”

Cera said they had never met before, but upon catching the mumbling, Cruise looked at him during the take and said, “‘Is that Michael Cera talking during a f****** take?’ He was joking,” Cera added, “but it was also like, ‘Do shut up,’ you know? But so surreal.”
