‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ star Tatyana Ali tells traumatic birth story

Tatyana Ali has revealed what she went through during the birth of her son and how traumatic it was for both her and the baby.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actress recalled undergoing an emergency C-section after doctors pushed her crowning baby back into her body.

In the latest episode of Pod Meets World, the 47-year-old clarified that he maneuver was “not a real procedure. In my records, it shows that [Edward] goes from the lowest station—I saw his hair, I touched his hair—to the highest station, and it doesn't say how that happened.”

Tatyana added that what they did was incredibly dangerous and that they could have snapped his neck, adding that they did not allow her to move.

The mother of the now 9-year-old called the care that she during her September 2016 delivery as "obstetric violence,” and opened up about what the newborn also endured after being placed in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

"He couldn't pee on his own for a long time..Actually, it was a pediatric urologist who is the only one who came to my side and said, ‘I saw what happened during your birth…I think the traumatic nature of his birth is what is causing this,’” she stated.

Tatyana also revealed that she later found out that a difficult delivery was a common experience for a person of colour, alluding to the fact that there was some element of racial bias in her experience.
