Matty Healy has boldly declared himself the ‘best songwriter’ of his generation.

The 1975’s front man is known for his provocative stage appearance and the Glastonbury’s headliner set was no different.

The 36-year-old music sensation took to the stage wearing a black leather jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans. He stunned fans by smoking a cigarette and drinking a pint of Guinness.

Though he chain smoked throughout the set, he also appeared nervous: “This is so scary, I am really nervous and I thank you all for coming.”

Before performing Chocolate from their 2013 debut, the singer candidly claimed, “This moment is making me realise that I probably am the best songwriter of my generation.”

He then claimed to be a poet but later retracted his words, saying: “I was only joking about being a poet”.

Talking about the lyrics of Chocolate, the front man said, “Generational words. I just wanted to remind you that the lyrics of this song are just poetry.”

The headliner set at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage marked the first ever performance by the band since March 2024.
