Thomas Markle breaks down over 'heartbreaking' family rift with Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, is still “absolutely distraught” about their fractured relationship, according to a new interview. 

The pair haven’t spoken since 2018, the year Meghan married Prince Harry, and Thomas has never met his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The fallout began after Thomas staged paparazzi photos ahead of Meghan’s royal wedding, something he later said was an attempt to portray himself positively after constant media attention. 

But the move backfired, straining his relationship with Meghan and Harry. 

Despite attempts to reconnect through texts and a letter, things worsened when parts of that private letter were leaked to the press.

Samara Gill, speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, said she recently spoke to Thomas: “He’s just absolutely still distraught about the fact that he still doesn’t have contact with Meghan.”

Now 80 and living in the Philippines, Thomas remains hopeful. 

“My door is always open to her. I love her and that will never change,” he told the Mail on Sunday. 

“There were good times. She was a good girl.”
