Chris Evans shared the adorable and nerve-wracking story of the week leading up to his proposal to Alba Batista, which included him paying homage to her heritage.
The pair, who wed in 2023 in an intimate ceremony at a private estate in Massachusetts, had gotten engaged earlier that year.
The Captain America: The First Avenger star decided to make the proposal special by popping the question in Batista’s native language, Portugese, but nearly let it slip before the big day since he was practicing the phrase beforehand.
In an interview with The Knot at the premiere of his latest film Materialists the 43-year-old stated, "So I learned how to say, 'Will you marry me?' in Portuguese. And I had practiced all week."
The Ghosted star continued, "I had practiced it so much that, while her and I, I'd be making breakfast and you almost just start saying it out loud and you're like, 'Oh God,'that's not just a song that's stuck in my head, it's gonna let the cat out of the bag."
Chris went on to note that he still remembers the phrase in Portuguese, which is perhaps the reward of all that practice.
The movie revolves around a young New York City matchmaker (Dakota Johnson) who finds herself torn between the perfect match (Pedro Pascal) and her imperfect ex (Chris Evans).
