Mark Hamill attempted to downplay his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise but Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher would not let him do so.

The Child’s Play actor stated that he wouldn’t explicitly note his most prominent acting gig, which came from the sci-fi series, in the credits in a Broadway playbill.

The deliberate move did not go unnoticed by the late actress who instead confronted him about the missing acknowledgement.

Hamill detailed in the incident in a recent interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, saying, “…in the playbill, in my bio, I listed all my theater credits and at the end it said, ‘He’s also known for a series of popular space movies.’"

"And she goes, ‘What’s the deal? How come you don’t mention “Star Wars”?’ And I said, ‘Well, I want to show that I have a resume that includes extensive theater credits.’ And she said, ‘Hey, get over yourself. You’re Luke Skywalker. I’m Princess Leia. Embrace it,'" he continued.

The 73-year-old went on say that this helped put things in perspective for him, and he realized that the irreplaceable role was special to him.

Hamill also expressed gratitude over being able to be a part of the series, mentioning the director, George Lucas by name and reflecting on how they did not expect the franchise to become a pop culture phenomenon.

Why did George Lucas stop creating Star Wars?

George Lucas stopped creating Star Wars as he wished to focus on smaller individual projects. He handed over the franchise to Disney to make sure it gets new creative teams to look after.
