George Lucas, the mastermind behind Star Wars, finally revealed the secret about the franchise’s beloved character Yoda who talks backwards.
On the 45th anniversary screening of The Empire, the 80-year-old answered the most anticipated question about the Jedi grandmaster.
Fans initially thought that the entire species of the green creature has a unique way of speaking by placing object before subject in the sentence, but Yaddle was later introduced with normal speech.
George cleared up the air by disclosing a trick that he used to add a new twist to his character. "If you speak regular English, people won’t listen that much.”
However, the Indiana Jones creator explained that unusual things become more noticeable. He noted that if “it’s really hard to understand what he’s saying, they focus on what he’s saying.”
The American screenwriter was successful in grabbing attention, especially of 12-year-olds. This made Yoda a beloved star of the science fiction since his first appearance in 1980.
According to a Statista poll, 13% of 2,200 admirers called the little creature the best amongst all the roles.
Although the entrepreneur had an entirely different strategy in his mind, a popular fan theory suggests that the Grand Master talks in reverse to honour N’Kata Del Gormo, who is his trainer in the space opera.
The legend stopped creating Star Wars as he wished to focus on smaller individual projects. He handed over the franchise to Disney to make sure it gets new creative teams to look after.
