Meghan Markle may have just reignited the royal baby name row with a subtle dig aimed at the late Queen Elizabeth II during the final episode of her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast.

In the recently-released season finale, the Duchess of Sussex chatted with SPANX founder Sara Blakely about building businesses and trusting your instincts, but it was a brief comment about naming that caught fans’ attention.

Speaking about choosing names for big ideas, including babies, Meghan said: “If you have an idea about what you are going to name that baby, you keep it so close to your heart, until that baby is born and it's named. Don’t ask anyone’s opinion.”

While the remark might seem innocent, royal watchers believe it’s a veiled reference to the drama surrounding her daughter Princess Lilibet’s name, and the late Queen’s alleged disapproval.

Back in 2021, Meghan and Prince Harry claimed they had Queen Elizabeth’s blessing to name their daughter Lilibet, a deeply personal nickname used by close family. But reports soon emerged saying otherwise.

Why Queen Elizabeth was 'angry' over Lilibet's name

Royal biographer Robert Hardman revealed in Charles III: New King, New Court that insiders claimed the Queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after hearing Meghan and Harry’s version of events.

While the Sussexes insisted the Queen had been supportive, the BBC reported she was not officially asked for permission. Other palace sources claimed she was informed, but not consulted.

In response to the controversy, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: “The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement, in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called… Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
