Kate Middleton just received a truly blooming honour, as she now has a stunning new rose named after her, and it’s as graceful and meaningful as she is.
The floral tribute, called Catherine’s Rose, was unveiled by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in collaboration with Harkness Roses.
This coral-pink beauty is tied to a much bigger mission. Every sale of Catherine’s Rose will benefit The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, helping fund a national training program for clinical teams focused on prehabilitation and rehabilitation for cancer patients.
Kate has always championed the mental and physical health benefits of getting outdoors, something she spoke about recently following her own cancer recovery journey.
In a heartfelt message during her visit with Scouts in the Lake District, Kate shared how nature has given her “a sense of peace and reconnection” during difficult times.
Clare Matterson, RHS Director General, called the rose a “spectacular” addition to British gardens: “It raises awareness of how nature and gardening can help to heal… and brings joy to gardeners and pollinators!”
Philip Harkness, of Harkness Roses, said: “It’s a privilege to create this floribunda rose in celebration of the Princess of Wales and support such a vital cause.”
Dame Cally Palmer, CEO of The Royal Marsden NHS Trust, added: “Every rose sold helps us bring this groundbreaking care program to more cancer patients across the UK.”
Princess Kate shared her cancer diagnosis in March of last year. In a video message she explained that in January last year, she underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at that time, it was thought that her condition was non-cancerous.
“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she shared.
However, she has now completed treatment and is now in remission.
