German filmmaker Christian Petzold’s highly anticipated feature Miroirs No. 3 has already made a significant splash on the international market before its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The Match Factory, the film’s international sales agent, has sealed multiple global distribution deals for the film ahead of its screening in the Directors’ Fortnight section.
Les Films du Losange will manage the French distribution rights, while Imagine Film Distribution has secured the Benelux release. Other territories also locked in include South Korea (M&M International), Turkey (Yeni Bir Film), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), Austria (Stadtkino Filmverleih), Romania (Independenta film), and the Baltic States(A-One Film). Meanwhile, Metrograph Pictures has already pre-bought the film for North America.
Miroirs No. 3 stars frequent Petzold collaborator Paula Beer as Laura, a piano student from Berlin. After surviving a car crash during a countryside getaway, Laura, though physically unharmed, is left emotionally shaken.
She is taken in by a local woman who witnessed the incident, and soon, Laura becomes part of the woman’s household. As Laura bonds with the family, the fragile harmony is disrupted when buried secrets surface, forcing her to confront her own unresolved past.
The film marks Petzold’s fourth collaboration with Beer, who won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 2020 Berlinale for her role in Undine.
The cast also includes Barbara Auer, Matthias Brandt, and Enno Trebs. Produced by Schramm Film Koerner Weber Kaiser in co-production with ZDF and Arte, Miroirs No. 3 is set to hit theatres on October 2, 2025.
