It seems like Blade fans would not be seeing their favourite character appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon.

The popular vampire hunter was supposed to make his big screen return in 2023 after Marvel Studios announced that they are working on a new Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali.

The film is reportedly without a release date for the time being after it was revealed that the project is experiencing behind-the-scenes turmoil.

Delroy Lindo, who was one of the actors cast in the highly anticipated reboot, recently revealed why he left the troubled project.

Lindo disclosed that Marvel was “interested” in his opinion about the movie, which was shaping up to be “very inclusive.”

“It was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails,” the 52-year-old shared with Entertainment Weekly.

The veteran actor is currently promoting his latest movie Sinners and further revealed that his character in Blade reboot was inspired by Marcus Garvey, a prominent figure in the Black Nationalist movement.

When was the first Blade comic released?

Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Blade first appeared in a comic strip in the July 1973 edition of The Tomb of Dracula as a supporting character.

The vampire hunter’s first solo comic book story was published in Vampire Tales in December 1974.
