Penn Badgley, who has fans at the edge of their seats for the final season of his mega-hit show You, got candid about his popularity.
Badgley disclosed his complicated feelings associated with stardom, and how he has come to terms with its extremities.
The 38-year-old noted that his experience with fame has been “alienating” and “isolating” after struggling with feelings of solitude since he was a child.
In an interview with The Guardian, Badgley said, “[Fame is] extremely unnatural, just the way that people want to relate to you. It’s not a new idea that fame has all these nefarious dimensions to it.”
“And in order to even appreciate or utilise the privileges that come with it, one has to really grapple with the ways in which it’s completely disabled parts of you or your life, or your relationship to others and society," he continued.
The Easy A star was aware of his bleak narrative coming off as arrogant, as he laughed before mentioning that he did not expect people to sympathise with him.
Badgley also informed that he was doing his best to manage his relationships as “a good father and a husband, a good friend, a responsible colleague,” along with his identity as a public figure.
Penn Badgley has a son, James, with his wife Domino Kirke, whom he got married to in 2017. The Paper Store actor also plays the role of a stepfather to Kirke’s son Cassius, and is expecting a set of twins with her in the summer of 2025.
