Australian actor Jacob Elordi has revealed that he found his fellow actor Owen Cooper “intimidating” while they worked together on the set of the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
The 27-year-old, who stars alongside Cooper, plays the younger version of his character and is set to take on the iconic role of Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s latest film.
The teenage star rose to fame last month in a Netflix show, where he portrayed the role of 13-year-old Jamie Miller, a boy accused of brutally murdering a female classmate.
Speaking to 10 News First about working with the teenager, the Priscilla lead said: “He’s brilliant, and he’s intimidating.”
“I think the first time I met him I asked, ‘Are you nervous mate,’ and he went ‘No,’ and I thought, ‘cool…cool me neither,” Elordi added. “But no, he is a tremendous actor.”
The moody protagonist of Emily Brontë’s beloved book, Heathcliff is characterised as a “dark skinned gypsy” with “black eyes.”
However, the first-ever exclusive images of The Kissing Booth actor in the role were made public on Sunday and they seem to have given him completely new perspective.
Filmmaker Emerald Fennell declared in July 2024 that she would write and direct a Wuthering Heights adaptation.
Margot Robbie, who also produces the film under her production company LuckyChap Entertainment, was cast as Catherine Earnshaw in September 2024 while Jacob Elordi was cast as Heathcliff.
