Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen, is considered as one of the most important novels of English Literature’s Regency era for its influence, cultural impact, socio-economic themes and complex characters.
The novel has been adapted multiple times over the past two centuries, contributing to its popularity.
Following the story’s popularity, Netflix announced that the streaming giant will be adapting it into a 6-part series with the BAFTA winner Euros Lyn.
The cast for the highly-anticipated show was announced with Emma Corin, famous for playing Princess Diana in The Crown, to star as the female protagonist Elizabeth Bennet.
“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Emma told Deadline.
Meanwhile, the Emmy nominated Slow Horse star Jack Lowden will feature as the charming Mr. Darcy.
Another British legend Olivia Coleman, who won an Oscar for The Favourite, will play Elizabeth’s mother, the frivolous Mrs. Bennet.
Emma Corin and Olivia Coleman have previously starred as Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown, respectively.
Pride and Prejudice is based on Jane Austen’s 1813 novel that follows the story of Elizabeth Bennet and her evolving love story with wealthy bachelor Mr. Darcy as they overcome their biases in the backdrop of their socio-economic differences.
