Eric Andre sat down for an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Where he opened up about how he turned down a role that went on to win an Oscar.
Andre rejected the part that he was offered on A Real Pain, written and acted in by Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin, because he thought it was too “depressing”.
"I was working on something else when I read the script. I read the script. It was like 120 pages about two Jews babbling about the Holocaust, and that seemed a bit depressing to me upon first read. And I was like, 'You know what? I'm a comedian; I want to stay in my lane as a comedian,'” he elaborated.
Being unsure of whether it was right for "my brand”, he admitted that it was now "the biggest mistake of my entire career.”
When asked if he actually read the script, the actor responded, "I read like the first 10 pages. Who reads a script? You know how boring it is reading a script? It's excruciating. Feels like school in summertime. All the Adderall in the world couldn't get me to read a single script."
Andre joked, "I agree to movies, and I don't even know what happens after the second act."
