South Korean girl group New Jeans is embroiled in a legal battle with their label, Ador, since August 2024.
The dispute started when the band’s mentor, Min Hee-Jin, was allegedly forced out by Ador’s parent company Hybe.
The group rebranded itself as NJZ after announcing that they were leaving their record label accusing them of mistreatment.
One of the members, Hanni, also accused the label of workplace harassment.
The company subsequently sued to have the members’ contracts be upheld and accused them of trying to sign independent contracts without their approval.
The group has announced a hiatus after Seoul court ruled in favour of their label. The announcement came during a performance at ComplexCon, Hong Kong.
“It’s tough to say but this might be our last performance for a while. Out of respect for the court’s decision, we’ve decided to step back for now.”, said members Hanni and Danielle.
The court’s order bars the members from signing any contract, producing music and scheduling their own performances without Ador’s management.
