Amanda Seyfried, an American actress, sat down for an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer where she opened up about her role on the series, Long Bright River.

Revealing that she had spent time with police officials ahead of her role, she stated, “I was asking a lot of questions, and they had a lot of answers about how to treat people. The way they communicated, reacted to situations, and the patience they had as humanized police officers. We need to see the good ones, too.”

“Mickey Fitzpatrick is a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in her district, she realizes that her personal history might be related to the case. With an empathetic vision of those struggling with addiction and their families, Mickey's journey illustrates the collective power of an underserved community and, through several unexpected twists, subverts expectations around whom society perceives as heroes and villains,” reads the official synopsis for the show.

Discussing the book of the same name that inspired the series, the actress said, “It feels so local and important. It’s a beautiful book that’s grounded in reality, and it’s an important story to tell. The perspective from a beat police officer in Kensington is interesting, and [playing] a female police officer has been a dream of mine. All the elements were there.”

She added about the complex nature of the character, “It’s hard to play her because I can’t fall back on a lot of the same tricks that I have when I’m playing a real person. I’m not playing a character that we know. I’m playing a version of myself, and I struggled with keeping the metaphorical hat on. It was tricky.”

About the background of the show and the location, Seyfried said, “We brought Philly to us. I’m really proud of the people who never acted before that are in the show. I’m proud of the strength that Liz had to keep everything in line with Philly, and to bring us all together to put a spotlight on this neighborhood.”
