Former talkshow host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are reportedly facing significant challenges in their new life in the United Kingdom.
After relocating to the Cotswolds, the couple's plans to renovate their $18 million farmhouse have met with local resistance, as reported by RadarOnline.
According to a source: "The locals are cranky over their plans to modernize their property."
The insider added, "Most folks would like nothing more than to see them move out. A lot of people in England can trace their family tree back over a thousand years and they don't take kindly to outsiders coming in and disturbing the peace."
Besides tensions regarding their neighbourhood, the couple's relationship is reportedly under strain as well. An insider shared with the outlet: "Ellen and Portia's neighbours battle is the least of their worries—Ellen's dead showbiz career has plunged her into a funk, and Portia has been dragged into it too. Their relationship isn't looking good."
It was further revealed that the couple's aspirations to integrate into British high society, including hopes of socializing with figures like the Beckhams and Elizabeth Hurley, have reportedly not materialized.
A source shared: "Ellen and Portia had high expectations when they moved to the U.K. They were looking forward to tea at the Beckhams' country house or Elizabeth Hurley's manor, but the people who matter to them aren't calling."
Ellen DeGeneres' departure from Hollywood followed allegations of a toxic workplace environment on her talk show, leading to its cancellation.
Her subsequent Netflix comedy special, For Your Approval, did not revive her career as hoped, with critics labeling her "unapologetic," "unrelatable," and "insufferable."
