Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were notably affectionate, at the recent Invictus Games 2025 in Vancouver, Canada, sharing a public kiss during the opening ceremony. This display comes amidst ongoing speculation about the state of their marriage.
Public relations expert Edward Coram James, CEO of British marketing agency Go Up, suggests that their visible affection was a calculated effort to counteract persistent divorce rumours. He stated, "They’ve both been under constant public scrutiny, and after everything last year with the relationship rumours, this kind of PDA is no accident."
James further explained that without such demonstrations, the public might speculate negatively about their relationship, which could adversely affect their professional endeavours, including upcoming projects like Meghan's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. He added, "If they hadn’t done this, people would have immediately speculated that their relationship was in a bad place, which would have been the worst thing for the Netflix premiere. So, yes, this is strategic and clever."
This isn't the first time the couple has addressed rumours about their relationship. In a previous interview, Prince Harry humorously remarked on the media's portrayal of their marriage, saying, "We've apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it's just like, what?"
Their recent affectionate gestures at the Invictus Games appear to be a deliberate attempt to project unity and dispel any notions of marital discord.
The Invictus Games hold special significance for Prince Harry, as he founded the event in 2014 to support wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women. Meghan Markle has been a steadfast supporter, often attending the games alongside her husband. Their joint appearances at these events highlight their shared commitment to veteran causes and provide a platform to showcase their solidarity as a couple.
