OpenAI has reportedly denounced plans to launch its highly anticipated o3 AI model. The news has shaken up the entire artificial intelligence (AI) industry, which is witnessing fierce competition.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that the AI pioneer is planning to launch a unified GPT-5 model, supporting cutting-edge o3 model features.
The development follows the latest release of the reduced variants of the o1 AI model, the o1-mini, to all ChatGPT users.
The o3 AI model was initially expected to be released sometime this month, but an enhanced variant of the o3-mini model’s timeline to make it live seems to have been overlooked.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Altman shared the roadmap for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, stating that by transitioning to the unified GPT-5 model, the company will incorporate the advanced o3 capabilities.
He further highlighted that with the launch of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, ChatGPT manufacturers will simplify for users to select the AI model preferred to the task at hand.
He termed this focus to be highlighted as “unified intelligence,” indicating that this model will consist of the cutting-edge AI models developed by the company, enabling it to assess users’ command prompts and find out whether reasoning is added or not.
While the scrapping of the o3 AI model launch could be disappointing for users anticipating getting it, the development is likely to reduce the need for users to decide which model would be enough for what sort of tasks.
