Google is gearing up to launch “YouTube Premium Lite,” a cost-effective subscription tier aimed at users who mainly watch non-music content. The latest plan is likely to be released in multiple regions in the near future such as Australia, Germany, Thailand, and the United States.
The Premium Lite plan will offer an ad-free experience with maximum videos, excluding music content. Furthermore, it will not support several features, including idle playback, remote downloads, or access to YouTube Music Premium.
According to Bloomberg, the latest tier is to attract significant users who are mainly interested in content other than music videos.
Over the past few years, the video streaming giant conducted a demonstration of a Premium Lite variant that lacks ads in select European countries. However, it appears that YouTube has updated the concept, as only a few users have reported the updated variant with limited advertisements.
Notably, the platform has yet to officially announce the pricing of the latest tier, an Australian user reported that YouTube Premium Lite is available at AUD 8.99 per month, which is significantly lower than the standard Premium price of AUD 16.99 per month.
While indicating towards its border expansion, YouTube spokesperson Paul Pennington stated: “We’re hoping to expand this offering to even more users in the future with our partners’ support.
