Meghan Markle may have never met Princess Diana, but her admiration for her late mother-in-law was on full display during her recent trip to Canada for the Invictus Games 2025 in Vancouver and Whistler.

During a basketball match between Team USA and Nigeria, which she attended with Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex turned heads with a stylish ensemble—but it was her choice of outerwear that sparked royal nostalgia.

Meghan opted for a navy blue knitted jumper from La Ligne, paired with Veronica Beard flared jeans in Indigo and black Stuart Weitzman boots. However, the real standout piece was her Doen’s Duccio jacket in castle grey, which bore an uncanny resemblance to one of Princess Diana’s most iconic coats.

The Doen Duccio jacket, inspired by 1970s suiting styles, features an exaggerated collar, notched lapel, tailored silhouette, and welt pockets—details reminiscent of a grey pinstripe coat by Jan Van Velden, famously worn by Diana in 1984.

The late princess wore the original piece twice that year—first, during a visit to a health centre in Lisson Grove, London, in March, and later in November while attending an event for Barnardo’s, a children’s charity she was patron of.
