DDG details first date with Halle Bailey ‘I invited myself’

Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., who goes by the name DDG, opened up on how he tuned in to his first date with girlfriend Halle Bailey.

In a conversation with PEOPLE at the Recording Academy Honores presented by the Black Music Collective on Thursday, the rapper revealed he "invited" himself to tag along with the Little Mermaid star to the movies after dinner.

"We went to this Ethiopian restaurant, and then I thought that was the end of the date," he recalled.

"Then she was like, 'I’m finna go see a movie.' I was like, with who?' she was like, 'by myself,' and then I invited myself," he explained the moment he offered to accompany her.

Reflecting on the journey from inviting himself to now, he said, "And now we are here with a baby."

Later, Bailey, 23, revealed that they ended up watching Dune starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya.

The rapper and actress are parents of one baby, son Halo, whom they welcomed sometime in December 2023.

Taking the good news to social media, The Color Purple actress posted an adorable snapshot of her manicured hands holding the little hand of her first child last month.

The tiny one's wrist was adorned with a golden cuff bracelet etched with his name, HALO.

The picture was accompanied by a sweet caption that read, "Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 would have done for me, was bring my son…"

"Welcomes to the world my halo [loved up emojis] the world is desperate to know you[laughing emojis]," she wrote in a playful reference to the curiosity surrounding her pregnancy rumours.
