Adan Canto, best known for his roles in The Cleaning Lady and the Designated Survivor, passed away at the age of 42 following his private battle with appendiceal cancer.

Shortly after the X-Men: Days of Future Past actor’s death was reported, his wife took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute for her husband.

Stephanie Ann posted a selfie of the couple smiling ear-to-ear as the ray of sunlight cuts through Canto’s head.

The picture was accompanied by a caption in which she penned, "Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon" after sharing a passage from Matthew 6:19-2.

Canto is survived by his wife, who was also her best friend and creative partner, and their two kids, Roman Alder, three, and Eve Josephine, one.

Canto’s Designated Survivor co-star Kiefer Sutherland also expressed his grief and extended his condolences via an Instagram post that read, "He was such a wonderful spirit."

"As an actor his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better, was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed," Sutherland wrote on Tuesday.

He went on to console the family and concluded the teary post, "I am also heartbroken for this wife, Steph, and his two young children. Adan may you rest in peace."

Later onwards, Halle Barry also mourned the death of the actor and shared she doesn’t "have the words yet…but my dear friend Adan just gained his wings."

Barry, who directed and co-starred along side Canto in Bruised, added, "Forever, forever in my heart."

Earlier, Fox Entertainment and Warner Bros Television also released a joint statement after the actor’s demise and described his death as an "unfathomable loss."
