When Christopher Nolan's nuclear drama Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's vibrant comedy Barbie arrive in theatres on July 21, many moviegoers are choosing to see both films on the same day.

AMC Theatres, the largest movie theatre chain in the world, reports that more than 20,000 AMC Stubs members have bought tickets to see Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day with two weeks till the big day.

The statistic is difficult to contextualise because there aren't many comparable data points for patrons buying tickets to watch numerous films on the same day — at least not ones that are publicly available.

Nevertheless, it appears to be big enough for AMC to issue a press release. Additionally, it is unknown how many people are AMC Stubs members in total, which includes A-List, AMC Stubs Premiere, and AMC Stubs Insider. The A-List, which starts at $19.95 per month, has between 900,000 and 1 million subscribers, according to Adam Aron, CEO of AMC.

"That more than 20,000 moviegoers have already made plans and purchased tickets to see Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day is a great sign that the growing online conversation around seeing both of these incredible films is turning into ticket sales," says Elizabeth Frank, executive VP of worldwide programming and chief content officer at AMC Theatres.

"Just as exciting, with 10 days to go until these movies open, this may only be the beginning. From Friday to today, we saw a 33% increase in the number of guests who decided to create their own double feature by purchasing tickets to see both movies on the same day. We are thrilled to see this momentum."

Early tracking indicates that Barbie will outsell Oppenheimer in terms of opening-night ticket sales. However, there's a chance that Tom Cruise's expensive sequel Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which debuts a week earlier on July 12, will finish the weekend in first place domestically.
