Prince Edward gets a new opportunity at King Charles' Trooping the Colour.
The 59-year-old Duke of Edinburgh will support his elder brother King Charles on horseback during the monarch's official birthday celebrations on Saturday at the inaugural Trooping the Colour of the new era.
According to PEOPLE, Prince Edward will ride in the procession on horseback in his capacity as Colonel of the London Guards, the Guards Division's army reserve battalion. In May 2022, the new battalion was created as a result of the military changes.
King Charles, Princess Anne, and Prince William, who all took part in the parade last year, will also probably be riding in it. Prince William is now Colonel of the Welsh Guards (an appropriate position that fits in with his title as the Prince of Wales), while Princess Anne is Colonel of the Blues and Royals. The King replaced his mother Queen Elizabeth as Colonel-in-Chief of all seven regiments of the household division.
However, not every honorary royal colonel will ride a horse during Trooping the Colour. In December, King Charles appointed his wife Queen Camilla as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards (a position that had been taken from Prince Andrew by his late mother), and his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton as Colonel of the Irish Guards (replacing her husband, Prince William). Princess Kate and Queen Camilla are most likely to travel in a horse-drawn carriage for Trooping the Colour.
