In 1997, Princess Diana succumbed to her death after being chased by the paparazzi on a dreadful evening in August.
The late mother of Prince William and Prince Harry had only been recently divorced from King Charles III when she was vacationing in France with her then-lover Dodi Al Fayed.
The limousine was being driven by Henri Paul – who was later found to have been intoxicated. He turned the car into a tunnel beside the Seine River in an attempt to escape the paparazzi, eager for a glimpse of the Princess of Wales.
The vehicle couldn’t sustain the speed of 121 mph and spun out of control smashing into a support column.
It flipped and came to a rest in front of oncoming traffic.
Onlookers later told People, "There was this huge, violent, terrifying crash followed by the lone sound of a car horn."
Al Fayed and the driver instantly died, while the Princess of Wales fought for her life for hours before her death was announced at nearly 5:00 a.m. on Aug. 31.
While her death appeared as an unfortunate accident, there have been theories suggesting that it was an orchestrated murder, impelled by a plethora of reasons.
One of the rumors was that Diana was pregnant with Fayed’s child at the time of her death, a notion vocally disapproved by the producer’s father Mohamed Al-Fayed.
However, the speculation was refuted by the former coroner of the Queen's Household, John Burton, who revealed in an interview with The Times that he personally examined the womb of the late Princess during a post-mortem examination at Fulham mortuary, and found her not to be pregnant.
