'Sick of It All' frontman Lou Koller dies at 59 after cancer battle

Lou Koller known as the influential frontman and co-founder of New York hardcore legends Sick of It All has died at the age of 59 following a battle with adenocarcinoma cancer.

The band confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement shared across its social media platforms on Friday, July 24.

"It's with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore family the passing of our brother Lou Koller. The level of loss that we feel at this time is overwhelming," the statement read.

Koller publicly revealed his diagnosis in June 2024 telling fans that doctors had discovered a tumour in his oesophagus. He was later diagnosed with adenocarcinoma which is a form of cancer that had spread from his oesophagus into his stomach.

Paying tribute to their late frontman the band remembered Koller not only for his commanding stage presence but also for his personality.

"We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman," the statement continued. "Lou had the power to raise everyone's spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world."

The band also expressed gratitude to fans who contributed to Koller's medical fundraiser during his illness.

"At this time of intense grief, we must again acknowledge the great help and support offered by everyone who donated to Lou's medical fund. You all helped Lou feel very special and very loved as he battled away these last two years."

Concluding the tribute they wrote, "His battle is over now and he can finally rest. Hopefully he can somehow still see and feel the beautiful, positive mark he left on the world."
